Game Recap
- High Point struck first in the 14th minute when the Panthers won a header in the middle of the field that sailed toward the 18-yard box
- Emily Mashinski chased the ball and as Izzy Giarrizzi came out to try and collect the ball Mashinski flicked it by Giarrizzi and then roofed a shot from just a couple yards out
- The Panthers made it 2-0 in the 27th minute as the Eagles turned the ball over in its defensive third as Lindsey DeHaven collected the loose ball, dribble toward the top of the box and then played a pass wide to Courtney Andruczk running on as she took a couple of touches before firing a shot into the lower right corner
- Eagles got one back in the 28th minute when Chela Parris found Monssi Avila-Gutierrez in the middle as she took a touch and then fired a shot toward goal that took a deflection off a defender and found its way into the right corner
- In the 30th minute Giarrizzi made a nice diving save off a shot from DeHaven but in the process banged the side of her body into the post but was back on her feet after a couple of minutes
- Off the corner kick, the ball went through untouched as Alex Deperno chased it down and just served a ball back in front of goal as DeHaven was wide open on at the six and placed a shot into the lower left corner
- Sophia Balliet pulled the Eagles within a goal in the 56th minute when she intercepted a pass around the High Point backline, dribbled in open space toward goal and calmly fired a shot to the top right corner
- Hannah Taylor tried to tie the game in the 90th minute as she fired a shot from about 20 yards out to the lower right corner that was tipped wide by a diving save from the keeper
Notables
- It was a windy afternoon at Vert Stadium as the wind blew down the field as the Eagles faced it in the first half and the Panthers in the second half
- Balliet scored her league-leading 5th goal of the season and continues to lead the conference in points per game
- This was the 10th games in the history of the series with High Point that was decided by a single goal
Looking Ahead
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 27 as they remain on the road heading to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate at 7 p.m.
