ABOUT THE EAGLES
- The women's team features 10 runners as sophomores Emma Charlton, Sara Davis, Olivia Kemp, and seniors Zoe Lexovsky and Morgan Ruff make up the returners.
- The women's newcomers are freshmen Caroline Bend, Kayah Marques, Erin Melitski, Alexis Taylor and graduate student Lauren Charlton, a transfer from UAB.
- The men's team has 10 runners this season that includes seven returners (sophomores Griffin McNeish, Logan Ragnow and Noah Woodberry, juniors Daren Hinds and Nolan Weisdorfer and seniors Maxwell Davis and Austin Spencer).
- The men's newcomers are Ivan Diaz, Caleb Selph and Chadwick Sisson.
- This is the 40th season for the cross country teams and the 31st year for head coach Ben Paxton.
- Hinds was named the Big South Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week while Mitchell Hill was named the Big South Freshman Runner of the Week on Oct. 12 last season.
- Hinds finished 28th at the Royals Challenge, finishing with a time of 25:13.6. He shaved more than a minute off his personal-best and ran the fastest 8K by an Eagle since Theo Kahler in 2018.
- Hill also competed in the Royals Challenge, finishing with a time of 28:14.7.
- Hill and Hinds were the first men's cross country runners to garner a weekly honor since Kevin Mills was the runner of the week on Sept. 20, 2017.
- Weisdorfer and Katie Weber were named to the 2022 Big South Cross Country All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the Big South Championships at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. on Oct. 29.
- Winthrop saw six runners compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Nov. 11 in Louisville, Ky.
- The Elon meet features NC State, the two-time defending national champions.Â
