Seven Different Players Score As Eagles Cruise To Second Straight Win

Game Recap
  • Winthrop had a few good chances over the first 35-plus minutes, but Southern Wesleyan's Amanda Magnin made a number of diving saves to keep the slate clean
  • Eagles finally broke through in the 37th minute as Bryn Radvanski's cross in front was put away by Sophia Balliet for a 1-0 lead
  • Balliet made another good run in the 39th minute as she got on the end of a Camdyn Melin cross at the back post and redirected it into the top corner from inside the six
  • Winthrop added a third goal before the half as Erika Brown dribbled into the box, dribbled by a defender and the goalkeeper before firing a shot from a tough angle into the far left corner
  • Annibel Thomas made it 4-0 in the 50th minute as Ally Bender split the defense to Thomas running behind into the box and she beat the keeper for her first of the season
  • Leading 5-0, Avila-Gutierrez netted her second goal of the season off a service from Kylie Full

Notables
  • Balliet and Emma Smith each finished with two goals and an assist
  • Eagles finished with seven different players scoring a goal
  • This was the first shutout of the season and the 8th for Izzy Giarrizzi in her career as she finished with two saves
  • Winthrop finished with a 34-3 advantage in shots and a 24-2 advantage in shots on goal
  • The nine goals are the most by a Winthrop team in a game since a 9-0 win over Alabama A&M on Sept. 6, 2014

Eagles stay at home for a second straight contest as they host South Carolina State on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPN+.
