Rock Hill, S.C. – The 2023 men's soccer season begins with a road trip as Winthrop heads to Conway, S.C. to take on former Big South Conference rival Coastal Carolina Thursday night.

FOOT NOTES
- Eagles are 25-22 all-time in season openers and 7-11 when opening on the road
- The last road win to open a season came in 2021 when the Eagles rallied late for a 4-3 overtime victory at Stetson (Aug. 26)
- The Eagles last non-conference road win came Sept. 6, 2021 at Furman in a 3-1 victory
- With the returning of 16 players and the addition of 17 the Eagles look to bounce back in 2023
- The makeup of the newcomers are eight freshmen, one sophomore and eight juniors
- Opened up the 2022 season with one of the nation's toughest schedules over the course of the first six games
- Finished the season 3-2-1 over the final six contests
- All three wins were shutouts as the Eagles allowed six goals in the final six games after allowing 45 in the first 11 games
- The top three scorers from a season ago return in Aiden Williams, Nick Guido and Bryant Jimenez-Pearce
- Jimenez-Pearce is working his way back from injury, which he suffered Oct. 5 at Radford
- This is the 49th season for the program and this game marks the 938th in the history of the program with 453 wins all-time
- Daniel Ridenhour is in his 8th season as the head coach of the Eagles after serving the previous 12 seasons as an associate/assistant coach
- Winthrop has five Big South Conference Championships, which is the second most by any member in league history
- The Eagles have made six NCAA appearances, also the second-most by any league program
- Winthrop has an all-time record of 356-351-47 while in the Big South and the 356 victories are the second-most all-time
