ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 season, the association announced Thursday afternoon. The Eagles earn the academic excellence honor for the eleventh time in team history.
Winthrop is one of more than 1,300 teams that earned this award, an all-time record. The award was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year and recognizes volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
In addition, Winthrop earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award Honor Roll distinction for the first time in program history. The Honor Roll represents the top 20% of team GPAs in each division, including NAIA schools, two-year colleges, men's collegiate programs, beach programs and high schools.
