FARMVILLE, Va. – In a game that saw two pitchers nearly register a shutout, Winthrop beat Longwood on the road in the first of a three-game series with the Lancers by a final score of 3-2. The Eagles move to 26-25 overall and 14-11 in the Big South.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brody Hopkins homered on the first pitch of the game to put Winthrop ahead 1-0.
- Two innings later, Ricky Teel's RBI double extended the lead to 2-0.
- Longwood tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.
- McKinley Erves put Winthrop back on top on a sac fly in the top of the fifth.
- Neither team scored after that but Josh Bookbinder entered the sixth inning and allowed only a single to shut down the Lancers the rest of the way and pick up the save.
