Eagles Fall On Senior Day To High Point, Drop Season Series To Panthers

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop fell to High Point at home in the series finale with the Panthers by a final score of 12-9, dropping the season series to High Point. The Eagles drop to an even 25-25 overall and 13-11 in the Big South.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • High Point took a 1-0 lead three plays into the contest on an RBI single and then went up 2-0 a few plays later on an RBI groundout.
  • Winthrop promptly tied the game in their half of the first on Joseph Szvetitz's fielder's choice, bringing home Will Martin and Ramses Cordova's sac fly, bringing home Ricky Teel.
  • In the third two straight RBI singles gave the Panthers a 4-2 lead.
  • But the Eagles responded with three straight runs in their half of the third to go up by one, capped off on Nate Chronis's RBI groundout, scoring Nicholas Badillo.
  • High Point hit a bases clearing double as part of a seven-run fourth to lead 11-5.
  • Martin singled to cut the lead to five in the Eagle half of the fourth and in the next inning Chronis homered to left center field to make it a four-run game.
  • In the bottom of the seventh Charlie Evans brought in two on a fly out.
  • The Panthers ended the game by scoring on a balk in the top of the ninth to make it 12-9.
