GREENVILLE, S.C. – Winthrop moved to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in Big South play with a 21-4 loss to Furman on the road on Saturday afternoon, concluding a stretch of six of seven games on the road for the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Furman scored the first two goals a minute into the game and eventually led 6-0 after 12 more minutes of play had gone by.
- Molly Dankowski got the Eagles on the board with 47 seconds left in the first quarter, leaving Winthrop down by five at the end of that frame.
- The Paladins started the second quarter with two goals two minutes in to go up 8-1.
- Ellie Dutton scored on a free position attempt to make it 8-2 at the 10:26 mark.
- But Furman scored the next two goals seconds later to take an eight-goal lead.
- Dutton got her second of the game on the free position with 8:44 remaining in the half to cut it to 10-3 only for Furman to score on the next play to go back up eight.
- The home team eventually made it 14-3 with one minute until halftime.
- Furman began the second half with two goals before Dutton got a hat trick on the man-up with 8:19 left in the third quarter, making the score 16-4.
- The Paladins scored just before the quarter ended to extend their lead to 17-4.
- Furman scored four more goals in the fourth quarter to end the scoring on the afternoon.
