ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop nearly came back from a three-goal deficit with two minutes remaining but eventually fell Winthrop moved to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in Big South play with an 11-10 loss to Presbyterian at Eagle Field on Wednesday night in a thrilling back-and-forth affair.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scarlet Cifarelli got the scoring started at the 11:04 mark.
- The Blue Hose answered with two straight goals.
- Cifarelli scored again and Grayson McKenzie gave Winthrop a 3-2 lead with 4:59 left in the first quarter.
- Presbyterian tied it with nearly a minute left in the frame.
- Molly Dankowski gave the Eagles a 4-3 lead at the 12:56 mark of the second quarter but the visitors scored two goals to lead 5-4 at the half.
- PC kept it going with two more goals to begin the second to go up 7-4 midway through the third quarter.
- Cifarelli got a hat trick and Ellie Dutton cut it to one with 3:15 remaining in the third.
- PC then tacked on another to lead 8-6 entering the third and went up three with less than 12 minutes left in the game.
- McKenzie got her second goal of the game with 9:47 left only for the Blue Hose to answer several minutes later.
- Dankowski made it 10-8 with 3:52 left.
- PC appeared to have put the game away with two minutes remaining but the Eagles began a last-gasp rally.
- Dankowski and Cifarelli scored two more goals to cut it to 11-10 with 33 seconds to go but the Eagles then failed to win the draw control and PC ran out the remaining time to secure their win.

- Four different Eagles scored a goal, with Cifarelli putting four in the back of the net and Dankowski recording a trick.
- Winthrop outshot PC at the net, 19-18.
- Winthrop nabbed 12 groundballs to PC's 11.
