MACON, Ga. – Winthrop moved to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in Big South play with a 20-7 loss to Mercer on the road on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Winthrop took a 2-0 lead nearly three minutes into the game on goals by Molly Dankowski and Ellie Dutton.
- The Bears responded with nine unanswered goals until Claire Witmer stopped the run at the 12:58 mark in the second quarter.
- Mercer notched six more goals but Olivia Paton scored inside of a minute to make the score 15-4 at the break.
- The Bears started the second half with a goal but Dutton scored her second of the game with 10:06 left in the third quarter.
- Mercer scored the next four goals but Grayson McKenzie and Dankowski wrapped up the scoring for both teams, with Dankowski notching her second with 56 seconds left in the contest.
