SCOUTING MERCER
Mercer is currently 8-2 and 2-0 in the Big South, having defeated Power 5 opponent Virginia Tech (ACC), American, George Washington, Manhattan and East Carolina. In the Big South the Bears defeated Gardner-Webb on the road and High Point at home. Their two losses were very close affairs to perennial powers Davidson and #8 Florida. Mercer is led by Samantha Eustace, who is in her seventh year with the program and the only coach their program has ever known. The Bears also feature assistant coach Grace Sisserson, an Eagle lacrosse alum (Class of '17). During her playing days with the Eagles, she helped Winthrop win two Big South titles and make a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. Mercer was picked to finish first in the 2023 Big South Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll with eight of the 10 first-place votes and 98 of the 100 possible points. The Bears finished the 2022 campaign with a 14-5 overall record and 8-1 in the Big South, sharing the regular-season title while winning the conference tournament title, punching a trip to the NCAA tournament, where they lost to the Florida Gators in Gainesville for the second time that season.

ALL-TIME AGAINST MERCER
The series is tied at three, but the Eagles are 1-2 in Macon and have lost the last two meetings to Mercer overall. The first meeting between the Eagles and Bears was on Mar. 25, 2018 with Winthrop notching a 14-9 win in Macon, which is Winthrop's only win there. After the Eagles won at home the next year, the Bears have since won three of the last four games between the two. In 2021 Winthrop and Mercer met twice, with each team winning on their home field. Last season saw Mercer winning 21-8 on Apr. 20 in Rock Hill.
