Eagles Head To Gardner-Webb

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After falling 16-7 to Campbell at home, Winthrop lacrosse travels to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the regular-season road finale.

SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
Gardner-Webb is currently 3-12 and 2-5 in the Big South. The Runnin' Bulldogs have defeated Akron out of Big South and in conference have beat Radford at home and Presbyterian on the road. Their most recent outing was a 22-16 loss at Furman last Saturday. GW are led by interim head coach Maddie Martin, who graduated from GW last May. GW was picked to finish sixth in the 2023 Big South Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll with 44 of the 100 possible points. GW finished the 2022 campaign with a 10-9 overall record and 5-3 in the Big South, recording their best season in program history up to that point and losing to High Point in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB
Winthrop leads the series with Gardner-Webb, 7-1 but are unbeaten in Boiling Springs, 3-0. The Eagles won the first seven contests before falling to the Runnin' Bulldogs for the first time last year, 19-12 in Rock Hill on Mar. 30, which was the most recent meeting between the two teams. Winthrop is seeking their first win vs. GW since a 21-11 margin on Apr. 24, 2021, part of two victories over GW that year. The first meeting was on Apr. 6, 2015 with Winthrop notching a 21-4 win at home.
