Lacrosse Hosts Campbell On Saturday

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After falling 17-7 to Radford on the road, Winthrop lacrosse hosts Campbell on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

  • In the Radford game, Ellie Dutton and Molly Dankowski were the only Eagles that scored, with Dankowski scoring four and Dutton scoring three.

SCOUTING CAMPBELL
Campbell is currently 10-4 and 6-0 in the Big South, tied with Mercer for first place. The Camels have defeated Stetson, George Mason, Old Dominion and Marist outside of the Big South while in conference play have won games against Radford, Furman, Presbyterian, Wofford, Gardner-Webb and Longwood. After finishing their non-conference slate at 4-4, the Camels have not lost since, having won six straight games, all in the Big South. Their most recent outing was an 18-10 win vs. Furman at home last Saturday. The Camels are led by Dawn Easley, who is in her 10th year with the program and just the second coach in program history. Campbell was picked to finish third in the 2023 Big South Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll with 78 of the 100 possible points and one first place vote. Campbell finished the 2022 campaign with a 10-7 overall record and 7-2 in the Big South.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST CAMPBELL
Winthrop leads the series with Radford, 6-4 and is 3-1 in Rock Hill. The Eagles won the first four contests but has since dropped four of the last six, including two straight. Winthrop is seeking their first home win vs. the Camels since a 16-9 margin on Apr. 11, 2018 and first overall victory in the series since a 13-12 thriller at Campbell on Apr. 3, 2019. The first meeting between the Eagles and Camels was on Mar. 30, 2013 with Winthrop notching a 15-10 win at home. The last outing between the two teams was a 17-10 Campbell victory in Buies Creek on Apr. 2, 2022.
