Clemson, S.C. – Winthrop softball battled 6
th-ranked Clemson on the road in a 2-0 loss, Tuesday evening.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Paige Rivas led off the game with an infield single and moved to second as KaDedra Temple followed with a single to right
- Eagles were unable to take advantage as Macy McCall and Ella McGalliard struck out followed by a ground out to short by Mackenzie Smith
- In the bottom of the first Valerie Cagle drew a one out walk but was thrown out by Chelsea Roberson trying to steal second
- In the top of the second inning, Ashton Vanhouse led off with a single to the hole at short, but was caught stealing at second
- Two batters later with two outs the Eagles got something going as Roberson singled followed by a single to center by Lilly Stump
- Peyton Rivas hit a slow chopper to second base as Stump ran past the second baseman and attempted to avoid the tag as all runners were initially called safe
- But after a review Stump was called out as the second baseman just caught her heel with the tag
- In the bottom of the third, Ally Miklesh walked with one out and raced around to score on a single to left center by Cagle
- The throw home to try and Miklesh was just high as she slid under the tag to score
- Caroline Jacobsen followed with a single to the outfield and Cagle scored but Jacobsen was out on the play trying to reach second
- Roberson led off the fifth inning with a single and was moved over to second on a sacrifice from Stump
- Paige Rivas moved Roberson to third with another sacrifice but Temple grounded out to second to end the threat
- In the top of the seventh the Eagles got a runner on with one out as pinch-hitter Aleah Roy singled through the left side but was left stranded
EXTRA BASES
- Paige Rivas extended her hitting streak to six straight games with a single in the first
- The Eagle outhit the Tigers 7-3, which was just the second time this season the Eagles have had more hits than their opponent in a loss
- The only other time came last week in a 3-0 road loss at USC Upstate (Had 5 hits to 3 for Upstate)
ON DECK
Eagles return home for a Big South Conference series with Longwood this weekend. The series begins on Saturday, Apr. 22 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The final game will be Sunday, Apr. 23 at 1 p.m.
