Ninety-Six, S.C — Nick Mayfield and
Charles Collings shot 2-under in the final round of the Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship to lead Winthrop to a tie for second place with Longwood, Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles finished in the top four and advanced to the match play portion of the championship and will face Longwood in the semifinals on Wednesday.

- Winthrop posted the lowest team score in the final round (289) to help finish in a tie for second place (lowest team score in final round since 2015 posted a 288)
- This was the highest finish by an Eagle team since a 2nd place finish at the 2007 conference championship (head coach Kevin Pendley's first season at the helm)
- With the second place finish the Eagles advanced to Match Play and will face Longwood in their semifinal match on Wednesday
- The Big South added the match play portion to the conference championship in 2019 and Winthrop has advanced to three of the four
- The Eagles lost 5-0 to Campbell in 2019 and 3-2 to top-seeded Charleston Southern in 2022 (both semifinal matches)
- Nick Mayfield shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to help move up and finish T7
- It is the second straight year Mayfield finished in the Top 10 after an 8th place finish in 2022
- Ian Faulconer also finished T7 for his best collegiate finish
- Charles Collings also shot 2-under in the final round to move up to a T10 finish, one shot back of Mayfield and Faulconer
- Collings edged his lowest 54-hole total this season by a single stroke and had his first Top 10 finish
- Winthrop as a team finished tied for 2nd among the field in Par 5 scoring (-20), while finishing third in Par 3 and Par 4 scoring
- The Eagles led the entire field in birdies with 53 and eagles with two
- Collings led the team in Par 3 scoring at 1-under, which was the second-lowest among the field
- Faulconer led in Par 4 scoring at 2-over, which tied for the 4th lowest in the field
- Matthew Hutto led the Eagles in Par 5 scoring at 8-under which tied for the second-lowest in the field
- Mayfield made the most birdies with 12 while Collings, and Hutto each had 11

Winthrop will take on Longwood on Wednesday, Apr. 19 in a match play semifinal at 8 a.m. The winner will advance to the championship match to face the winner of Radford and Charleston Southern.
