Eagles Fall To PC Sunday Afternoon

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball fell 3-1 to Presbyterian College in the final game of the three-game series, Sunday afternoon.

RECORD: Winthrop (26-17, 8-7 Big South) | Presbyterian College (23-15, 4-7 Big South)
WINTHROP LEADERS: Ashton Vanhouse (2-2) | Macy McCall (1-3, R) | Chelsea Roberson (1-2, RBI, SF)
WHAT HAPPENED
  • PC struck first with three runs in the top of the fourth inning
  • Morgan Hess walked with one out and then moved to second on a single by Mallory Fletcher
  • Rebecca Clark came through with a soft single to left as Hess raced home from second to lead 1-0
  • With two outs, Morgan Farthing laced a grounder just inside the bag at first base as she ended up at third with a two-run triple
  • The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the third as Macy McCall singled through the hole at first to lead off
  • Two batters later Ashton Vanhouse hit a pinch-hit single through the right side to put runners at the corners
  • After Vanhouse stole second, Chelsea Roberson hit a sacrifice fly to right field as McCall came home on the play
  • Vanhouse led off the seventh inning with a single to short and then ended up at third after back-to-back wild pitches
  • Lilly Stump followed with a walk to put runners at the corners with one out
  • But the Eagles were unable to drive in a run as Peyton Rivas struck out and then Olivia Martin grounded out to second on a full count

EXTRA BASES
  • Paige Rivas extended her hitting streak to five games
  • McCall scored for the third straight game and now has 104 in her career
  • Reese Basinger finished with eight strikeouts for the Eagles and now has 183 on the season, which moves her into 9th on the single-season Top 10 list
  • Basinger is now nine strikeouts away from becoming the first Eagle to reach 200 in a season since Shahna Ashard had 216 in 2005
