Winthrop To Head To Charlotte For Matchup With Queens On Friday

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After a 16-11 win over Eastern Michigan at home to move to 2-2 on the season, Winthrop lacrosse heads to Charlotte to face the Royals of Queens University on Friday at 5 p.m.

SCOUTING QUEENS
The Royals, after a decade of being a Division II member (SAC), moved up to Division I and joined the Atlantic Sun Conference this season. Last year the Royals were ranked #1 and undefeated until suffering their only loss in the Division II Final Four and set a program record for most wins in a season, going 21-1. It was the Royals third national semifinal appearance in a row. Queens is led by Kelly McQuilkin, who is in her first year at the program. She comes to the Royals from High Point where she served as associate head women's lacrosse coach for the past two seasons. The ASUN's preseason poll picked the Royals sitting seventh.

This is the first meeting between these two teams.

Winthrop will travel to the campus of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN on Sun, Mar. 19 with an 11 a.m. neutral-site matchup with the Bulldogs of Butler University.
