  • McMillan stole second to get into scoring position but Boulware ended the threat by getting a foul out
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Ansley Lee took an 0-1 pitch over the fence in center to give Winthrop a 1-0 lead
  • Radford answered right back in the top of the fifth as pinch-hitter Abby Wilson hit a leadoff home run to left field
  • In the bottom of the fifth with a runner on and one out, Ashton Vanhouse reached on a fielder's choice and then moved to second on single by Paige Rivas
  • The next batter was Temple and she hit a grounder that was misplayed by the second baseman as Vanhouse raced around from second to score and give Winthrop a 2-1 lead
  • Radford did threaten in the top of the seventh as McMillan singled to center to lead off
  • McMillan was sacrificed to second but Boulware got a fly out to left and struck out the final batter to end the game

EXTRA BASES
  • Basinger's 16 strikeouts are the most in a single appearance in the Big South this season, passing teammate Sydney Boulware's mark of 15 set on Feb. 24
  • Basinger also set a new career-high for strikeouts in a single-season with 146 and has 114 more strikeouts than walks on the season
  • Temple stretched her streak of reaching base to eight straight
  • The doubleheader sweep means the Eagles take the series against the Highlanders for the first time since 2016
  • Winthrop had lost five straight one-run games to Radford prior to today's 2-1 victories
  • Radford and Winthrop are accustomed to one run games as 15 of the last 32 meetings head-to-head have been decided by one run and 21-of-33 decided by two runs or less
