Eagles End Non-Conference Slate With Loss At Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Winthrop moved to 3-4 on the season with a loss to Liberty on the road by a final score of 22-7 on Thursday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Liberty scored the first two goals before Molly Dankowski got the Eagles on the board at the 11:55 mark of the first quarter.
  • The Flames responded with two goals but Ellie Dutton cut the deficit to two with 8:24 left in the frame.
  • Liberty then went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-2 lead.
  • Claire Witmer stopped the run with her first goal of the game with nearly two minutes remaining.
  • Liberty scored once more to take a 9-3 lead heading to the second quarter.
  • Liberty started the second quarter by putting it in the back of the net three times before Krystal Beebe scored on the man-up with nearly eight minutes left.
  • The Flames tallied another goal three minutes later and scored with one second left to take a 14-4 lead going into the locker room.
  • Witmer scored her second of the game two minutes into the second half.
  • Liberty answered with three goals but Witmer got a hat trick nearly three minutes left in the frame.
  • The Flames scored just before the gun to take an 18-6 lead into the final quarter.
  • Liberty started the final 15 minutes by scoring four until Witmer scored her fourth on the afternoon just before time expired to end the scoring for both teams.
