Reese Basinger struck out 13 on her way to a perfect game to lead Winthrop to a 6-0 victory over South Carolina State, Wednesday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Reese Basinger started off the game striking out the side in the top half of the first
- The Eagles pushed three runs across in the bottom of the first as Paige Rivas started things off with a walk and then stole second
- KaDedra Temple followed with a two-run home run down the left field line
- Macy McCall followed with a single and then stole second to get into scoring position
- Ansley Lee came through with a line shot down the left field line to plate McCall for an RBI double
- In the bottom of the third, McCall led off with a bunt single and two batters later scored all the way from first on a Mackenzie double to left center
- Kaitlyn Tucker stepped in and crushed a two-run home run to center for a 6-0 lead
EXTRA BASES
- Basinger tied her career-high of 13 strikeouts on her way to the perfect game and her third shutout this season
- This was the first perfect game thrown by an Eagle since Kelli Johnson on Apr. 3, 2004 in a 2-0 win over Belmont
- McCall extended her hitting streak to seven games and has reached base in nine straight
- Temple's home run is her team-leading fourth of the season
ON DECK
Winthrop remains at home as it will host Radford in a three-game series Mar. 25-26. The series begins on Saturday, Mar. 25 with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. The final game of the series on Sunday, Mar. 26 will be on ESPNU with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
