ROCK HILL, S.C. – After the first game in school history that went past one overtime, a 10-9 triple overtime victory at the neutral site of Lincoln Memorial University vs. Butler to move to 3-3 on the season, Winthrop lacrosse heads to Virginia to face the Flames of Liberty University on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the final non-conference game of the year.

WINTHROP AT A GLANCE

SCOUTING LIBERTY
The Flames are currently 2-5 with wins vs. VCU and at Pittsburgh. Liberty is led by Kelly Nangle, who is in her 9
th year with the program. Liberty was also picked to finish second in the 2023 ASUN Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll with one first place vote and 54 total votes. Liberty finished the 2022 campaign with an 11-8 record and finished as the runner-up at the ASUN Women's Lacrosse Championship for a third straight season.
ALL-TIME AGAINST LIBERTY
Winthrop leads the series, 6-4, but is 2-2 in Lynchburg. The teams met for the first time on Apr. 14, 2013 with the Flames winning 12-11 in overtime. Winthrop then won the next five meetings but has since lost three of the last four, including the last two. The last meeting took place on Feb. 26, 2020 with Liberty winning 17-9 in Lynchburg. Winthrop is seeking their first victory in the series since a 16-10 win in the Big South Tournament in High Point, N.C. on May 4, 2018 and is also looking for their first win in Lynchburg since a 17-6 margin on Mar. 30, 2016.
