McCall, Lee Power Eagles Past Campbell

Rock Hill, S.C. –Ansley Lee and Macy McCall powered Winthrop softball to a 4-0 win over Campbell in the final game of the three-game set, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Over the first three innings each team had runners in scoring position but were unable to drive home any runs
  • In the bottom of the third the Eagles had runners at second and third with one out but KaDedra Temple fouled out and McCall flied out to deep left center
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles struck first as Ansley Lee hit a leadoff home run to left on a 2-2 pitch
  • In the top of the fifth with one out, Delaney McDilda singled and moved to second on a sacrifice but Reese Basinger struck out Alyssa Henault to end the top half
  • In the bottom of the fifth Ashton Vanhouse led off by reaching second base on an error followed by a walk from Olivia Martin
  • Paige Rivas and Temple each hit into force outs at third base
  • Macy McCall stood in and took a 1-0 pitch over the center field fence for a three-run home run and a 4-0 lead
  • Campbell threatened in the top of the sixth when Makayla McClain reached on a double as Temple made a diving attempt to catch the ball in shallow right field as the ball hit off the edge of her glove
  • Basinger struck out the next two batters to end the threat
  • Basinger earned her 10th win of the season as she tossed a three-hit shutout with two walks and nine strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
  • Basinger tied her career-high for wins in a single-season with 10, which she set last season as a freshman
  • The shutout for Basinger was her second on the season and sixth of her career
  • The home run for McCall extended her hitting streak to a season-long six games and has now reached base in eight straight
  • McCall has now hit a three-run home run in consecutive games as she finishes the series with Campbell 3-for-8 with three runs and six RBI
