Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop dropped a doubleheader with Campbell, Saturday afternoon in the Big South Conference opener for both teams. Campbell took the opening game 2-1 and held off the Eagles for a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Eagles jumped out 1-0 in the bottom of the first as Macy McCall walked with two outs to keep the inning alive
- After an Ansley Lee single and Kaitlyn Tucker walk the bases were loaded
- Campbell pitcher Kayla Howald got Kaylyn Little ground back to her but misplayed the ball off her glove and all runners were safe as McCall crossed the plate for the run
- Campbell tied the game in the top of the fifth inning as Savannah White led off with a home run to left
- Alyssa Henault followed with a single and two batters later scored on a flare to shallow center as Tucker tried to chase it down and couldn't make the catch despite a diving effort
- In the bottom of the fifth the Eagles had a chance to tie the game as Paige Rivas hit to lead off the inning
- Paige Rivas then stole second and third as McCall stepped in with one out
- McCall singled to first and then stole second to put two runners in scoring position
- Lee stepped up and laced a shot to the hole on the right side as Henault made a diving catch and then turned to make a throw to second to turn a double play
- In the sixth the Eagles threatened again as Tucker led off with a single and then Little was hit by a pitch
- The runners moved over to second and third with no outs
- Pinch-hitter Ella McGalliard popped up to second for the first out
- Chelsea Roberson and pinch-hitter Isabella Clark struck out to end the threat
- Reese Basinger took the loss in the circle as she scattered nine hits allowing two runs with a walk and four strikeouts
Game 2
- Campbell grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth as it started with singles from Madilyn Gillespie and Claudia Ware
- Eventually Gillespie ended up on third and Ware on second as Allyiah Swiney came up with one out
- Swiney hit a grounder to short as Lilly Stump fielded it and checked the runner at third before making a throw to first that wasn't in time as Gillespie race home to score on the play
- In the fifth, Makayla McClain plated two runs for a 3-0 advantage
- Campbell went ahead 4-0 in the sixth on a solo home run by Delaney McDilda
- In the bottom of the sixth the Eagles made it a one run game
- Paige Rivas walked with one out and then KaDedra Temple singled through the left side
- McCall came up next and took a 1-1 pitch over the fence in center for a three-run blast
- Campbell added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to hold off the Eagles
- Sydney Boulware took the loss in the circle as she allowed four runs on 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts and is now 7-3 on the year
EXTRA BASES
- McCall now has a hit in five straight games and has now reached base safely in seven straight
- In the two games the Eagles left 12 runners on base and were 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position
- Little extended her streak of reaching base to five games while Temple and Paige Rivas have reached in four straight
