Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop earned a 5-4 walk-off win to take the series 2-1 against Quinnipiac, Thursday afternoon at Terry Field.

WHAT HAPPENED
- In the top of the first, Serena Fogg drew a leadoff walk and after being sacrificed to second she moved to third on a ground out
- After Hannah Davis walked to put runners at the corners, Fogg scored when a throw from catcher Chelsea Roberson to try and catch her off the bag was off the mark and into left field
- Then Davis scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead
- In the third inning the Bobcats added another run as Amanda Engel scored on a throwing error by Roberson to second base
- The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the third as Paige Rivas reached on an infield single
- KaDedra Temple followed with a single to left on the first pitch to put two on with no outs
- After both Paige Rivas and Temple moved over a base on a passed ball, Macy McCall came through with a double to left center to pull the Eagles within 3-2
- Two batters later McCall stole third and then the throw from the catcher was off the mark and McCall came in to score
- Quinnipiac regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Davis doubled to lead off
- After moving to third on a ground out Davis scored on a wild pitch to lead 5-4
- In the bottom of the sixth and two outs, Roberson came up and hit a 1-1 pitch over the fence in right center to tie the game at 5-5
- In the bottom of the 8th, Ansley Lee drew a leadoff walk and then moved to second after Kaylyn Little walked
- Lee was replaced at second base by pinch runner Peyton Rivas
- Lily Stump moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt and then Peyton Rivas scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch
EXTRA BASES
- The Eagles used three pitchers in the game as Reese Basinger ended up with the win after allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and a strikeout in three innings to improve to 9-5 on the year
- Winthrop improved to 6-3 on the year in one run games and 10-4 in games decided by two or fewer runs
- Roberson extended her current streak of reaching base to six games while McCall has now reached safely in five straight
- Paige Rivas finished with two hits and now leads the team with nine multi-hit games on the year
ON DECK
Winthrop will get just one day of rest as it turns around and hosts Campbell Mar. 18-19 in its Big South Conference opening series. The series will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and then the final game Sunday is also scheduled for 1 p.m.
