Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop split a doubleheader with Quinnipiac Wednesday afternoon as it took the nightcap in a 5-0 win after dropping the first game of the day 1-0.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- It was a pitcher's duel in the opening game of the doubleheader as the difference was a solo home run in the 5th
- Hannah Davis took a 3-2 pitch with two outs down the left field line as the ball just cleared the fence for the lone run in the game
- Reese Basinger allowed just the one run on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts
- Quinnipiac's Sydney Horan tossed a three-hit shutout with two walks and eight strikeouts
- In the third inning the Eagles got a runner to second as Olivia Martin led off with a single down the right field line and then stole second with one out but Horan got Ashton Vanhouse and Paige Riva swinging to end the threat
- After the Bobcats took the lead in the 5th, the Eagles threatened to tie the game in the bottom half
- Ansley Lee walked with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner Aleah Roy
- Martin followed with a walk and then Chelsea Roberson singled to short and loaded the base
- Isabella Clark stepped in as a pinch-hitter but hit into a double play to end the inning
Game 2
- In the bottom of the second, Kaylyn Little led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Ashley Wood
- Lily Stump followed with a single to right center to put two on with one out
- But two batters later Roberson hit into a fielder's choice as the lead runner was out on a force out at third and then Peyton Rivas grounded out to end the inning
- Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the third with no outs as Paige Rivas singled followed by a walk from KaDedra Temple and bunt single from Macy McCall
- Lee hit a grounder to short as the throw came home for the force out
- Little followed grounding into a double play to end the threat
- The Eagles finally broke through in the fifth inning as Paige Rivas set the table with a single to short
- Temple ripped the first pitch up the middle to put runners at first and second
- After back-to-back outs, Little came through with a single up the middle to score Paige Rivas
- Then Stump singled off the third base bag, scoring Temple from second
- Chloe Baker stood in and hit a shot over the left fielder's head for a two-run double
- Paige Rivas led off the sixth with her fourth hit of the game and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead
- Sydney Boulware tossed a shutout for a second consecutive start as she allowed just three hits with three walks and five strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- Paige Rivas set a career-high for hits in a game as she was 4-for-4 in game two and is now tied for the team-lead in multi-hit games
- The RBI for Stump in the 5th inning of game two was her first as an Eagle and also set a career-high with three hits
- Winthrop was one hit shy of a season-high with 13 in the win over the Bobcats
- Boulware has back-to-back shutouts and now has three on the season
