Baseball Splits Two-Game Series With Cincinnati After Offensive Explosion In Final Three Innings

ROCK HILL, S.C. –Winthrop came back from a 3-1 deficit in the sixth inning by scoring a combined 12 runs the rest of the way, as the Eagles split the two-game series with Cincinnati by a final score of 13-3. With the win, Winthrop moves to 9-9 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On the second pitch of the game, the Bearcats went deep for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the second when Ramses Cordova singled to bring home Jonathan Strauss.
  • Cincy hit their second homer of the game in the top of the fifth inning to break the tie and go up 2-1.
  • The visitors then extended the lead to 3-1 in the next inning on an RBI double.
  • Winthrop came back in bottom half of the sixth to tie it at three on an RBI double by Ty Hooks and Straus's RBI single.
  • The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with two outs by scoring four runs combined on Joseph Szvetitz's RBI single and Strauss's RBI double.
  • Winthrop locked up the game with six runs to go up 13-3 in the next Eagle half of the inning.
