Eagles Drop Conference Opener At Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. –Winthrop lost to Campbell on the road in the first game of a three-game series with the Camels to open up conference play by a final score of 12-2. Winthrop moves to 9-10 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Campbell got on the board first in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout.
  • Winthrop punched back in the next inning when Jonathan Strauss got Joseph Szvetitz to come home on a sac fly, knotting the game at one.
  • The Camels hit a two-run homer in their half of the second to take a 3-1 lead.
  • The Eagles cut it to one in the third when Ty Hooks singled and scored Charlie Evans.
  • Campbell went back up two on an RBI single in their half of the inning and scored four more runs in the fifth to go up 8-2.
  • The Camels then scored four runs combined in the next two innings to lead 12-2 and wrap up the scoring for the night.
