Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop fell 7-1 at North Carolina, Tuesday evening in midweek softball action.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles struck in the top of the first inning as KaDedra Temple got things started with a one-out single up the middle
- Macy McCall then reached on an error by the right fielder as Temple moved to second
- Mackenzie Smith drew a walk to load the bases and then Kaitlyn Tucker was hit, which allowed Temple to cross the plate for a 1-0 lead
- The threat ended when Ansley Lee grounded into a double play
- North Carolina loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and Alex Brown cleared them with a double to take a 3-1 lead
- Tar Heels took advantage of a throwing error that allowed Aneshia Jordan to score on the play for a 4-1 lead
- Eagles loaded the bases in the fourth as Smith had a leadoff single
- Two batters later Lee was hit by a pitch with one out followed by a single from Ashton Vanhouse to load the bases
- Chelsea Roberson popped up to second for the second out and the threat ended on a foul out by Isabella Clark
- North Carolina plated three more in the fifth on a two-run double from K. Jones and double down the line from C. Myrtle
EXTRA BASES
- With her single in the first inning, Temple has now reached base in four straight games
- Winthrop stranded seven runners in the game while UNC left eight on
- Tucker had her team-leading 11th RBI
