Box Score 2 Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop dropped the first game of the day with a 6-4 loss to Harvard but bounced back with a 4-1 win over LIU in the final game of the Winthrop Garnet & Gold Tournament on Saturday.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Harvard
- Harvard struck in the top of the first on a one out single down the left field line by Kendall Jean
- Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the second as Mackenzie Smith led off with a homerun to left center
- The Eagles scored another in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead as they loaded the bases and Chelsea Roberson brought home Macy McCall on a sacrifice fly to center
- Winthrop grabbed a 4-1 lead in the fifth as McCall doubled home KaDedra Temple from first base
- The Crimson pushed five runs across in the sixth highlighted by a pinch-hit three-run homerun by Finley Payne
vs. LIU
- Winthrop scored all four of its runs in the third inning as Olivia Martin singled with one out to get things going
- After Paige Rivas reached on an error, McCall doubled to right center that scored Martin for a 1-0 lead
- Then two batters later Smith reached on an error as two runners scored on the play
- Later in the inning Kaitlyn Tucker drove home Temple on a foul out sacrifice fly
- Reese Basinger was in control most of the game in the circle as she allowed one unearned run on two hits with no walks and 12 strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- McCall finished the day with four hits and now has a five-game hitting streak
- Eagles scored four runs in the third inning against LIU and have now outscored opponents 18-0 in the third inning
- Basinger had her third start with 12 or more strikeouts and now has 59 on the year in 41.1 innings

Winthrop will finish up the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 11:30 a.m. when it hosts Fordham.
