How it Happened
First Quarter | Both teams split the first four baskets nearly four minutes in with
Paige Powell getting both of the Winthrop scores. The Camels took a 6-4 lead a minute later but
Tori Hall answered a few plays later from three-point range to take a one-point lead with 4:40 left. Coming out of a media timeout, Powell made it 9-6 on a layup. The Eagles would hold Campbell scoreless for four minutes until they hit two free throws to cut the margin to one with 1:34 left and then seized the lead on a jumper inside of a minute. The score would remain the same when time expired to end the frame, Winthrop down 10-9.
Second Quarter | The Camels started the second quarter with a layup before
Shamyjha Price tacked on her first points of the night on two free throws at the 8:39 mark. Two free throws and three scores down low by the Camels gave them a 20-11 lead with nearly a minute left. Campbell also held Winthrop scoreless for seven minutes until Powell made a jumper to cut the deficit to 20-13. But the Camels scored with 37 seconds remaining to lead 22-13 at the break.
Third Quarter | Campbell started the second half with a layup and a free throw before Powell got a free throw of her own and
Jada Ryce scored to make it 25-16 in favor of the Camels at the 7:42 mark. The Camels got two scores in the paint a few plays later to go up double-digits but Ryce got her second field goal of the game immediately thereafter. After a break in the action, Price hit two free throws only for Campbell to respond with a basket with 4:00 left. Powell then made a layup 30 seconds later but Campbell did the same twice. Trailing by 13, Ryce nailed one from downtown to make it a 10-point game inside of a minute but the Camels got another basket seconds later, leaving them up 37-25 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter | Like the start of the game, the two teams split the first ten points and leaving Campbell up by 12 in the early going. Ryce hit a jumper and two free throws to make it 42-34 with 4:51 remaining but the Camels made two baskets to go up 12. Ryce then made two more jumpers, the second coming with 1:44 left to cut it to eight but that's as close as Winthrop would get the rest of the way as Campbell got one more basket to close out the scoring.
