HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Eagles got on the board first in the first inning when Mark Kirkland singled but advanced to second on an error, allowing Dylan Ducharme to score and McKinley Erves to move to third.
• On the next play, Ricky Teel grounded out to first but Erves came home to make it 2-0 Winthrop.
• In the bottom of the third, the Eagles added five runs for a 7-0 cushion.
• Kirkland came through again by flying out to score CJ Conrad.
• Ty Hooks, Will Martin, Ramses Cordova and Ducharme singled and scored Teel, Joseph Svetitz, Hooks and Martin, respectively.
• Svetitz tripled and scored Kirkland to make it 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
• Jonathan Strauss made it 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth by doubling to score Cordova and Martin.
• With the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, Winthrop walked in a run to end the shutout bid and made it 10-1.
• Winthrop scored one last time in the bottom of the eighth when Erves made it home on a wild pitch and Svetitz flew out to score Kirkland, making the score 12-1 Eagles.
• Winthrop easily recorded the final three outs to secure the series sweep.

Winthrop will travel to Columbia for a 4 p.m. matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday. This is Winthrop's first road game of the year.
