COLUMBIA, S.C. – Winthrop suffered their first loss on the season vs. South Carolina by a final score of 18-3 Tuesday afternoon at Founders Park. Winthrop drops to 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Gamecocks struck first in the second with the bases loaded and no one out on a fielder's choice and getting two to come home on an RBI single, making it 3-0.
• The Eagles got on the board in the fourth when Joseph Svetitz doubled to score Ricky Teel and cut the deficit to 3-1.
• USC answered right back with a three-run homer in their half of the fourth, leaving Winthrop trailing by five.
• Winthrop tacked on a run in the fifth on an error with Teel batting, allowing Ramses Cordova to score.
• The home team hit a two-run bomb and a grand slam in their half of the fifth to take a 12-2 lead.
• The Gamecocks then scored five in the next inning to go up 15.
• In the top of the seventh, McKinley Erves singled up the middle and gave Cordova his second run of the game to make the score 17-3.
• USC tacked on an RBI single to go back up 15 in the bottom of the seventh and then closed out the scoring for the night on another RBI single in their next inning for the final margin of victory.
