N. Charleston, S.C. – Winthrop defeated Charleston Southern 75-67 for a second straight road win, Saturday evening in Big South Conference action.

FIRST HALF
- Eagles got off on the right foot as Sin'Cere McMahon drilled a three on the first possession
- After Charleston Southern tied the game at 3-3 on a Tyeree Bryan three, Cory Hightower answered with a triple
- The Eagles led 9-7 when Kelton Talford scored inside while being fouled and completed the three-point play to lead 12-7
- The Buccaneers started to gain momentum midway through the half as the Eagles led 17-12 when they went on an 8-0 run to take the lead at 20-17
- It remained a one possession game for the next 3-4 minutes until the Eagles hit back-to-back threes from Kasen Harrison and Toneari Lane followed by two free throws from McMahon to lead 36-28 with 3:47 left in the half
- Bryan knocked down a jumper with three seconds left, but the Eagles led 40-35 at the break
SECOND HALF
- Charleston Southern made it a three point game on two occasions in the early going of the second half, but then the Eagle built a seven point advantage after another three from McMahon
- Taje' Kelly scored to cut the lead back to five point only to have McMahon hit two free throws and then Lane dropped in another three for a double-digit lead
- The Buccaneers made it a two-point game at 63-61 with 4:20 to play in the game after an R.J. Johnson jumper
- The teams traded baskets on the next two possessions but after a Harrison layup to lead by four the Eagles forced a turnover and proceeded to score on a Talford basket at the rim
- After two free throws by Claudell Harris Jr. made it a four point game, McMahon found Talford down low for the dunk as the Eagles made five defensive stops down the stretch to hold on for the win
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Eagles shot 50 percent for the game, having shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half
- Winthrop held Charleston Southern to 42 percent shooting
- Buccaneers had a 33-32 edge on the glass and a 12-8 edge in second chance points
- Winthrop connected on 11 threes in the game and had a 30-24 advantage in points in the paint
- Winthrop finished with five players in double-figures led by Talford's 20 points
- Lane and Hightower each had 16 points while McMahon added 12 and Harrison chipped in with 11

- Talford 20 or more points in three straight games and now has six on the year and eight in his career
- Winthrop hit 11 threes, the second straight game with 11 or more and for the eighth time in league play (7-1 in those games)
- Hightower's 16 points pushed him past 1,700 career points (1,710)
- Lane posted his 12th double-figure game off the bench with 16 points and now has 16 games on the year in double-digits
- This was the 9th straight win over the Buccaneers and also the 9th straight win at the Buccaneer Fieldhouse
