Farmville, Va. –Winthrop picked up consecutive Big South wins for the first time in more than a year as the Eagles swept Longwood, winning on the road by a final score of 69-58 on Wednesday night.

How it Happened
First Quarter | Winthrop came out swinging with by taking a 10-2 lead three minutes into the game, courtesy of three baskets by
Shamyjha Price and two scores by
Paige Powell. Longwood went on a 10-2 run to tie at 14 with 3:02 left but consecutive buckets by
Jada Ryce and Powell gave Winthrop a 16-12 lead thirty seconds later. The Lancers then cut it to a point with a triple but the Eagles scored the final eight points of the frame for a 23-15 lead. The final Eagle score of the quarter was a score from deep by Ryce.
Second Quarter | The Eagles kept the torrid start going by holding the Lancers to only two baskets for the first five minutes of the second quarter while also scoring seven points themselves. Winthrop's scores at the midpoint of the second frame were two baskets by
Tori Hall and another Ryce deep bomb, giving the Eagles a 30-20 lead with 6:07 left. The Lancers responded with a 9-2 run but Powell stopped the run with a layup, giving Winthrop a 34-29 lead with 1:29 left. This was Winthrop's first field goal in nearly five minutes. Longwood would then hit one from deep just before the half and Winthrop went into the break with a 34-32 lead.
Third Quarter | Price started the third quarter with a layup and
Leonor Paisana got on the scoreboard with a three-pointer a few plays later, giving the Eagles a 39-32 lead at the 8:49 mark. Longwood would get four quick points but Hall, Price and Ross hit three straight layups for a 45-36 lead with 4:37 left. Longwood hit two free throws but Price restored Winthrop's nine-point lead with a layup on the next play. The Lancers responded with a three but Hall hit a jumper to put the Eagles up eight with 2:45 left. Longwood continued to cut into the deficit with a basket and two free throws but after solid defense in the last minute Powell hit two free throws and the Eagles went into the fourth quarter with a 51-45 lead.
Fourth Quarter | The two teams split the first four baskets to start the fourth quarter. Hall's layup on Winthrop's second score of the quarter resulted in a 55-49 Eagle lead with exactly six minutes left. Hall and Powell would then combine for a 9-0 run coming out of a timeout to put Winthrop up 13 at 62-49 with 3:36 left. Longwood stopped the run with four free throws and a layup to cut it to seven with 2:29 left but Ryce ended any hopes of Longwood coming back with a huge layup with two minutes left. This combined with a Hall free throw put Winthrop up 10 with nearly a minute to go. Longwood would hit two more free throws to cut it to eight but Paisana hit two free throws of her own for an 11-point lead inside of a minute. Longwood would get two more free throws but Powell concluded the scoring with a layup with 40 seconds left as the Eagles went on to win their second straight game 69-58.
