Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off sweeps of UNC Asheville and USC Upstate last week in their final regular-season road trip of the season, Winthrop Volleyball (12-12, 11-2 Big South) hosts Gardner-Webb for Senior Day/Homecoming this Saturday at 2 p.m. in the regular-season finale for the Eagles.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS GARDNER-WEBB
This will be the 46th meeting between the programs, with Winthrop leading the series 39-6 and have won the last 12 matches vs. Gardner-Webb. Winthrop's last loss to GW was 3-0 on Sep. 30, 2017. The first meeting was in 1980 with the Eagles winning 2-0. Winthrop defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs on September 23 on the road in four sets.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Eagles traveled to UNC Asheville on Friday and USC Upstate the next day.
- Winthrop swept the Bulldogs 3-0 to get back into the win column and defeated the Spartans in four sets to conclude their final regular-season true road trip.
- In the UNC Asheville match, Emma Ann Lay made her season debut, registering a kill in one set played.
- With their defeat of the Spartans, Winthrop achieved three things: Finishing 6-4 in true road matches in regular-season competition, clinching the second seed in the Big South Tournament and getting their record to .500 at 12-12 with one match remaining.
PROMOTIONAL NIGHT
The Eagles' match this Saturday vs. Gardner-Webb will be part of the University's Homecoming and a doubleheader at the Winthrop Coliseum. The festivities begin with the recognition of six seniors for their contributions to the Winthrop Volleyball program prior to the start of the match with Gardner-Webb. Those being recognized are:

Madison Gorniak,
Emma Ann Lay and
Alicia Roberts.
The men's basketball game vs. Drexel will be played following the conclusion of the match with the possibility of an autograph session in the upper concourse depending on how long the match will last.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Eagles will learn of their opponent for the upcoming Big South Tournament next weekend. Winthrop is the No. 2 seed and will play the No. 3 seed next Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Millis Center on the campus of High Point University in North Carolina. The tournament will be televised on ESPN+.
