- The Eagles struck first in the 32nd minute as Rodrigo Ferreira's shot was blocked but Josh Szcech scored on a shot to the bottom left corner seconds to lead 1-0
- It is Szech's first goal as an Eagle
- The Tigers drew level in the 37th minute when Ousmane Sylla and Remi Okunlola connected with Nathan Richmond
- Clemson grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute as Richmond set up Joran Gerbet for the go-ahead goal
- Around five minutes later the Tigers added another as Shawn Smart scored with a shot to the left corner off a pass from Enrique Montana
Notables
- Jack Kilstrom finished the game with six saves, one shy of his career-high
- This was the first matchup between Winthrop and Clemson during the regular season since 2006
