Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop won their fifth straight match by sweeping UNC Asheville at home by a final score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-21).

How it Happened
Set 1 | Trailing 12-8, the Eagles scored 10 of the next 15 points to forge ahead 18-17.
Brookelynn Thomas and
Isabella Murray each had two kills during the Winthrop run. Thomas also registered a service ace. UNC Asheville tied the set on the next play but Winthrop used another big run to secure a 1-0 lead in the match. This time the run was an 8-1 tally with a Bulldog error ending the set.
Set 2 | Down 6-4, Winthrop went on a 13-5 run to seize a 17-11 lead. The run including scoring five straight points twice. Thomas accounted for two kills to lead the Eagle offense during the scoring binge. Winthrop remained in control after that and an ace by
Madison Gorniak put Winthrop up 2-0 in the match.
Set 3 | With the Eagles ahead 7-5 thanks to five more kills by Thomas, the Bulldogs scored the next three points to go up 8-7. Down by one, Winthrop went back ahead 15-10 with an 8-2 rally.
Riley Oglevie's three kills accounted for nearly half of Winthrop's eight points. UNC Asheville then went on a 9-2 run to go up by two at 19-17. With the Eagles facing the possibility of going to a fourth set, Winthrop dug in and finished off the Bulldogs with a closing 8-2 run, including scoring five straight points.
Avery Jolley's kill gave Winthrop the sweep.
