Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop swept USC Upstate at home by a final score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18), giving the Eagles a second straight win against a team in the Top 4 of the Big South standings.

How it Happened
Set 1 | Winthrop started the night with a 12-9 lead, with
Karli Shepherd notching three kills. The Spartans cut it to one on the next two plays but Winthrop took control of the frame with a 6-0 run, with
Avery Jolley getting two kills to lead the Eagle run. The scoring binge gave Winthrop their largest lead of the set at 18-11. USC Upstate then battled back, cutting the Eagle lead to two at 21-19 with an 8-3 run. Undaunted, Winthrop finished the set by scoring four of the last five points to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Shepherd's kill clinched the set.
Set 2 | Winthrop came out on fire to begin the second set, taking a 5-0 lead and forcing a timeout to be called by the Spartans. Shepherd's two kills led the way. Eventually the Eagles seized their largest lead of the set at 24-15 several plays later on an error against USC Upstate.
Riley Oglevie's kill on the next play gave Winthrop a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3 | Trailing 4-2 to start what proved to be the final set, four straight points put Winthrop in the lead for good. Winthrop failed to get some separation on the next several plays, with their lead ranging from one to four points. Then up 18-16, the Eagles clinched the match with a closing 7-2 run.
Brookelynn Thomas had three kills to lead the way during the run, including on the last play of the game.
