How it Happened

First Quarter | Winthrop started the game down 3-0 before taking a 4-3 lead on free throws and a layup by Paige Powell at the 6:56 mark. The two teams then alternated scores before PC hit a jumper to take a 13-10 lead with less than three minutes left. Aaishah Barry responded with a layup on the next play only to have the Blue Hose hit a triple immediately thereafter. Trailing by four, consecutive baskets by Jada Ryce and Shamyjha Price tied it up at 16 inside of a minute. PC then hit a free throw to enter the second quarter up 17-16.

Second Quarter | Winthrop started the second frame on a personal 4-0 run by Powell for a 20-17 Eagle lead two minutes in. After the Blue Hose responded with four straight points of their own, Winthrop went on a 6-0 run on two straight layups by Ally Ross and Tori Hall to take a 26-21 lead with exactly four minutes left. But the Blue Hose ended the half with an 8-3 run to leave the teams square at 29 entering the break.

Third Quarter | The Blue Hose scored the first five points of the second half before Powell hit a layup and was fouled to make it 34-32 PC at the 6:26 mark. But from that point forward it was all PC. The Blue Hose went on a commanding 10-0 run before Powell stopped a Winthrop scoring drought of almost five minutes with a jumper in the lane. PC then hit two more three-pointers for their final scores of the frame as Winthrop's only scores for the final two minutes of the quarter were free throws by Powell and one free throw by Barry for a 50-37 lead heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter | The teams alternated baskets for the next several plays to start the fourth quarter. PC would ultimately seize a 21-point lead, 66-45 at the 4:00 mark, their largest of the game. Winthrop would only score 10 points in the quarter, with six of them by Powell. Her scores during the frame were two layups and two free throws. After PC seized their 21-point lead, Winthrop hit two more free throws to make the final score 66-47.
