How it Happened
First Quarter | Winthrop trailed 6-0 more than five minutes into the game before
Paige Powell hit two jumpers and a free throw to cut the Radford lead to 9-5 at the 3:52 mark. The home team then scored nine of the next ten points to go up 11 at 18-7 with nearly a minute left. The Eagles would close out the quarter with a productive finish by scoring four of the next six points on a triple by
Frances Brown and another Powell free throw. At the end of the first quarter Winthrop trailed 20-11.
Second Quarter | Radford scored the first four points of the second quarter before Winthrop went on a 10-2 run thanks to two Powell layups, an
Ally Ross three-pointer and a
Shamyjha Price score and the foul to make the score 26-21 Radford at the 5:56 mark. But the Highlanders answered right back with a 13-5 to close out the half. Winthrop's only scores during Radford's half-ending spurt was a Powell free throw, a Brown layup, and a Powell jumper with 25 seconds left to end the scoring. Going into the break Winthrop trailed 40-26.
Third Quarter | Radford picked up right where they left off by scoring the first seven points to give them their largest lead of the period at 47-26 two minutes in. Trying to get back into the game, the Eagles responded with a 7-2 run on a Price triple and two free throws and a jumper by
Jada Ryce to cut the deficit to 49-33 at the 5:45 mark. The rest of the quarter was largely even in terms of scoring, with the Highlanders scoring five points to Winthrop's three to close the period. Going into the final period Winthrop trailed 54-36.
Fourth Quarter | Winthrop started the fourth quarter with a Powell jumper but Radford scored the next six points to take a 60-38 lead at the 5:16 mark as the Eagles failed to score for nearly five minutes. Powell ended the drought with a layup to make it a 20-point deficit with less than five minutes left. The Highlanders eventually seized their largest lead of the game at 74-43 with 48 seconds left as they went on to win 74-45.
