Game Recap
- Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they were awarded a penalty kick in the 4th minute when Ben Goodman was taken down in the box
- Bryant Jimenez-Pearce stepped in and buried a shot for his first goal of the season
- The Eagles led 1-0 at the break despite a 9-4 advantage in shots for High Point
- The Panthers drew level in the 58th minute when Jackson Ruckman found Noah Holmes open in front of goal on a cross
- Holmes took a touch off the pass and then slotted the ball into the lower left corner from about 10 yards out
- The Panthers took advantage of a fortunate bounce in the 60th minute to take the lead
- Holmes received a pass near the edge of the box and tried to play the ball wide but the pass hit his own teammate, bounced right back to him and he blasted a shot first touch into the lower left corner
- High Point took a two goal lead in the 74th minute as Sebastian Chalbaud chipped a ball into space behind the Winthrop defense, setting up Aiden Abril for a 1v1 and he beat Sam Jones for the goal
- Panthers added one more in the 86th minute on a goal by Ashton Perkins set up by Brendan Krueger.
- Eagles had a good chance to tie the match at 2-2 in the 63rd minute as Christopher Cushing hit a shot first touch off a long free kick but Holden Trent made the diving save as the ball went out for a corner

- High Point finished with a 15-8 advantage in shots (8-5 in shots on goal)
- Jones finished with four saves while Trent also had four saves for HPU
- Eagles fall to 15-13-3 all-time in Big South openers
Looking Ahead
Winthrop will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. when it takes on Gardner-Webb. The game is the second of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team who will face Radford at 5 p.m.
