Game Recap
- The Eagles struck first in the 12th minute as Grayson Woodard's effort to win the ball on the outside led to the goal
- After winning the ball Woodard dribbled into the box near the end line and dropped a pass for Bryant Jimenez-Pearce as he struck a shot first time that was blocked, but his second effort found the back of the net
- Runnin' Bullodgs created a scoring opportunity to tie the match in the 13th minute when Aymane Sordo dribbled to into the box and let a left footed shot fly that was turned away by a diving save from Sam Jones
- Gardner-Webb drew level in the 24th minute when Sordo drilled a long ball behind the Eagles defense as Owen Zaldivar collected the ball and dribbled toward goal for a one-on-one with Jones as he finished to the lower left corner
- In the 34th minute the Eagles had a free kick from close to 30 yards out from goal as Jimenez-Pearce struck a shot that curled and just missed the top left corner
- The Runnin' Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute
- A ball served into the box found Sordo as he danced on the ball to try and work free for a shot but eventually just dropped a pass to Jacob Harris outside the 18 as he struck a ball with just enough pace to beat a diving Jones and finding its way into the lower left corner
- In the 50th minute the Eagles had a good chance to equalize when Louie Danielson hit a long ball to the middle of the field to Stefan Sildor who flicked on a pass with his head to Woodard racing to goal
- Woodard collected the pass and worked his way into the box and fired a left footed shot but Javier Ramirez closed the angle and made the save
- In the 63rd minute Sildor made a run into the box and received a pass and then fired a quick shot to the lower right corner that Ramirez dove and got just enough on it to deflect wide for a corner kick
- In the 77th minute Ben Goodman sent a ball down the wing as Jimenez-Pearce ran on to it and dribbled his way toward the middle of the field when he served a ball into the box
- Sean Green made a late run and got on the other end of the Jimenez-Pearce service as he struck a shot first touch from about 10 yards out that looked like it had Ramirez beat but the shot just missed wide left
Notables
- Gardner-Webb finished with a 16-13 edge in shots while the Eagles had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal
- Jimenez-Pearce has scored in back-to-back games for the second time in his career
- Ramirez finished with five saves while Jones ended with two
