Game Recap
- The Spartans grabbed the lead in the 8th minute as J.C. Ngando won the ball in the middle of the field about 40 yards from the Eagle goal
- Ngando dribbled toward the box and as he approached the top of the 18 he slipped a pass to his right into space as Maddox Mallery ran on and on his first touch beat Dean DePinto near post
- UNCG nearly made it 2-0 in the 30th minute when Sami Lachekar's header off a corner hit the top of the crossbar and went over for a goal kick
- Jayden Mace nearly tied the match in the 51st minute as he received a ball wide right and served a ball that was headed toward the top corner at the back post but goalkeeper Niclas Wild was able to backpedal and tip the ball over for a corner kick
- Offensively the Eagles were much better in the second half, getting forward and dumping a number of services into the box either in the run of play or off a free kick but unable to make the final connection
- When the services did connect the Spartans defense did a good job of deflecting or blocking any shots by the Eagles
- There was about a 15-20 minute period where the Eagles applied a ton of pressure, but unable to equalize
- Christopher Cushing put a free kick into the box in the 76th minute and after a couple of failed clearances the ball came to Grayson Woodard as he cracked a shot first time but a UNCG defender jumped in the way to keep it off frame
- One of the services into the box was cleared out and Rafael Marin Bellucci collected it and tried a strike from around the edge of the 18 but the shot was wide right
- The Spartans netted an insurance goal in the 87th minute as it was awarded a penalty kick as Ngando placed the shot into the left corner for the 2-0 lead
Notables
- Dean DePinto made his first start of the season in goal for the Eagles and finished with four saves
- UNCG finished with an 18-4 advantage in shots (8-4 in second half) and 6-1 in shots on goal
