Game Recap
- Eagles had a good chance in the 11th minute when awarded a free kick on the outside as Emma Smith put a shot on frame that was tipped out by goalkeeper Caroline Doss for a corner
- Just over two minutes later the Eagles had a great opportunity as Emma Smith was free in the middle of the field and slipped a pass through the defense to Katy Feskorn in the box for a one-on-one as she tried to beat Doss to her lower left but she got down quick to make the save
- Wofford had a good chance in the 18th minute as Ashley Grant chased down a through ball into the box and fired a shot at an angle from about eight yards away but Izzy Giarrizzi deflected the ball away for the save
- Terriers struck first in the 29th minute as Caileen Almeida split the Winthrop defense with a pass to Haley McCaffrey and she collected the pass where it was just her and Giarrizzi
- McCaffrey had a choice to pass in front or shoot and she placed a shot near post past Giarrizzi
- Eagles trailed 1-0 at the half, the first time they've trailed at the half this season
- Winthrop nearly tied the game 28 seconds in the second half as Smith chipped a ball behind the Wofford defense as Chela Parris ran on to it inside the box and fired a short toward frame that hit the top right corner of the post but deflected out for a goal kick
- Terriers doubled their lead in the 60th minute as Ashley Grant received a throw-in, spun and dribbled into space toward the box
- As Grant approached the box she fired a shot that hit the back of a Winthrop defender and popped into the air toward the right side of the goal as Ansley Elizalde ran onto the ball and headed it past Giarrizzi from the top of the six
- In the 85th minute off a corner Bryn Radvanski put a shot toward the left corner of the goal that was cleared off the line by a defender and over for another corner kick
- In the 86th minute the Eagles created a good chance off a free kick as Hannah Taylor played the ball wide as Marianella Gillum ran on to the pass, dribbled to the touch line and placed a ball in front that hit a Wofford defender at the near post and nearly redirected into the net but Doss was there to drop on the ball
- Once the Eagles fell behind 2-0 they continued to press but were just unable to find the back of the net

- Winthrop allowed a goal in the first half for the first time this season
- Wofford had a 23-4 advantage in shots and 13-2 in shots on goal
- Giarrizzi finished with a career-high nine saves in the game

Winthrop is back on the road as it will head to Asheville, N.C. to open up Big South play against UNC Asheville on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.
