Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball split on the final day of the Winthrop Tournament with a victory over Wyoming before falling to Davidson, Saturday at the Winthrop Coliseum.

How it Happened
Set 1 | Wyoming jumped out to a 4-1 lead as the Eagles got off to a slow start with a couple of early attacking errors. The Eagles chipped away at the lead to make it 6-6 after a service ace from
Brookelynn Thomas. The Eagles and Cowgirls went back-and-forth for a few points as the Eagles trailed 12-10. An
Alayna Jansky kill started a 5-0 run that put the Eagles on top and their biggest lead of the set at 15-12. Jansky had the last two kills of the run as well, forcing a Wyoming timeout. The Eagles continued to hold at least a two point advantage, which included a 19-17 lead before a small run pushed them closer to taking the opening set. Jansky recorded another kill followed by back-to-back service aces by
Avery Jolley for a 22-17 advantage. The Eagles closed out the set to take it 25-20 as Thomas clinched it with an ace.
Alicia Davis led the Eagles with six kills in the set while Jansky had five.
Isabella Murray had 16 assists.
Set 2 | Winthrop opened the second set strong, grabbing a 6-2 lead behind two kills from Jansky and one each from Thomas and
Avery Jolley. Leading 7-3, the Cowgirls reeled off four straight to tie the set but the Eagles responded with two straight to regain the lead. But Wyoming had its own answer, scoring five of the next six points for a 12-10 lead. Eagles battled back to tie the set at 14-14. Later in the set the Eagles trailed 21-18 before three straight points tied it at 21-21 after a Riley Olgevie kill. Wyoming scored three straight to reach set point and eventually won the set 25-22. Jansky led the way with five kills while Murray had 12 assists and five digs.
Set 3 | The teams traded points in the early going until Wyoming used two 3-0 runs to open a 9-4 lead. Wyoming eventually pushed its lead to 12-6. Winthrop fought back by scoring seven of the next eight points to tie it at 14-14. It started with a Jansky kill and a
Madison Gorniak service ace. After a Wyoming point, the Eagles scored five straight behind two kills from
Lexie Vick. Wyoming answered with a 4-0 run only to have Winthrop score five straight starting with a kill by Murray and a Davis kill capped it off for a 19-18 lead. The teams went back and forth as the Eagles took a 24-23 lead to force a Wyoming timeout. The Cowgirls scored out of the timeout but a Jansky kill had the Eagles up 25-24. After Wyoming tied it again, the Eagles took the final two points for a 27-25 win. Jansky led the set with five kills and seven digs while Davis and Vick had four kills.
Set 4 | The score was tight early on and mostly remained a one point set as the Eagles led 8-7. Eagles slowly started to build a 2-3 point lead, pushing it to 12-9 and 14-11 at some point but it was a two point set at 14-12. The Eagles scored three straight after two Wyoming errors and a service ace from
Jenna Calloway. The lead grew to five points and the Eagles led 19-14 before Wyoming tried to dig into the lead with three straight. A kill by
Alicia Roberts ignited a 6-0 run to close out the set and clinch the match with a 25-17 win. Jansky led with five kills and Jolley had four kills.

How it Happened
Set 1 | Jolley opened the scoring in the set with a kill. She then had another for a 2-1 lead. Davidson then scored three straight for a 4-2 advantage and then pushed the lead to 8-5.
Alicia Roberts had a kill followed by a Jolley Kill to make it a one point deficit. Trailing 9-8, Davidson used a 6-0 run to open things up for a 15-8 lead. The Eagles tried to chip away as Jolley ended the run and then a kill by Davis cut the lead to 17-13. Davidson eventually pushed its lead to 23-16, but the Eagles went down fighting, scoring five of the next seven points before falling 25-21. Jansky had six kills while Jolley added four. Murray had 16 assists and four digs.
Set 2 | The Eagles trailed 2-0 early but answered with five straight points behind kills from Roberts, Thomas and two from Jansky. After Davidson tied it at 5-5, another run by the Eagles doubled their lead at 10-5. Winthrop scored seven of the next nine points to open up a 17-7 advantage. Davidson tried to cut into the lead by the Eagles held them off to take the set 25-17. Jansky had five kills while Thomas added four.
Set 3 | Winthrop led 3-2 early on and clung to a 4-3 lead before Davidson reeled off three straight for a 6-4 lead. The set remained tight as the Eagles stayed within 2-3 points, including 18-15 after a Jolley kill. Winthrop trailed 19-17 when the Wildcats scored the final six points to take the set. Jansky had four kills.
Set 4 | Eagles trailed 4-1 early and were within two points at 8-6 after a Jolley kill. Davidson went on a 4-0 run for a 12-6 lead but the Eagles answered with two straight points. Davidson continued to increase it lead with a couple of 3-0 runs to build an 18-10 advantage. Davidson went on to take the set 25-15 and clinch the match.
