Game Recap
- Eagles came out ready to go offensively as Emma Smith tested Sheila Sanchez just 42 seconds into the match but Sanchez made the save
- Eagles had three shots on goal over the first five minutes and nine seconds of the match and eventually got on the board in the 11th minute
- Abbie McCrea was set up by Chela Parris for a 1-0 lead
- Less than six minutes later the Eagles doubled their lead when McCrea's shot was initially saved but Katy Feskorn put away the rebound for a 2-0 advantage
- The Lady Hornets put some pressure on in the final minutes but Izzy Giarrizzi stood tall making two saves
Notables
- Alabama State held a 10-9 edge in total shots while the Eagles finished with six shots on goal
- Giarrizzi finished with five saves to earn her fourth career shutout
- This was McCrea's first collegiate game with at least a goal and assist in the same match
- Parris finished the game with 57 minutes as she assisted on the game-winning goal in her collegiate debut
Looking Ahead
Winthrop will be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. when it hosts VMI in the home opener of the 2022 season.
