Baseball Clinches Series With Win Over North Carolina A&T

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program defeated North Carolina A&T at home on Saturday, clinching the conference series in the process.
 
The Eagles are 16-32 (9-11 Big South) overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Miller hit a three-run home run in the first inning for an early lead
  • A&T came back in the second as an RBI single and a sacrifice bunt brought two runs in
  • Morton hit his first homer of the game to increase the lead to 4-2
  • The Aggies used a two-run homer in the fifth to tie the game
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Spyke doubled home two runs and Robby Taul singled home two more to give Winthrop an 8-4 advantage
  • Another two-run home run from North Carolina A&T cut the lead to two
  • Spyke's RBI single in the sixth and Morton's second solo homer of the day in the seventh extended the lead to 10-6
  • Ethan Fewell also homered in the eighth for a five-run Eagle lead
  • A&T made things interesting with an RBI single and a three-run home run to right center field, but Lumpkin shut the door for his third save
