Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball garnered four honors as the Big South Conference Announced its annual softball awards Tuesday afternoon.

Macy McCall and Paige Rivas were named Big South All-Conference Honorable Mention while Reese Basinger was voted to the All-Freshman Team. Lauren King earned Big South All-Academic Team honors.

McCall earns all-conference honors for a second season as started all 55 games she played while averaging .284 with 38 runs, 10 doubles, four home runs, 17 RBI and 23 stolen bases. The 2021 All-Big South Second Team selection led the team with 38 runs and finished the regular season tied for fourth in the Big South. She also ranked second in walks.

On Mar. 18 McCall was named to the Big South Conference Player of the Week. In two seasons with the Eagles she has 69 stolen bases, which is two shy of the program's all-time mark of 71 held by Charlene Smith (1989-92). In addition she surpassed the 100 career runs mark.

Rivas led the Eagles with a .354 as she started 53 of the 54 games she played. Rivas also finished with 28 runs, three triples, 13 RBI and a team-high 25 stolen bases. Her .354 average is the 8^th best average in the Big South through the end of the regular season. She also ranks second in stolen bases, tied for third in triples, fourth in total hits and ninth in on-base percentage (.416). Rivas led the team with 15 multi-hit games and had a career-best 10-game hit streak during the season. Had an even better streak of reaching base in 15 consecutive games. The 25 stolen bases by Rivas are the 5^th most by an Eagle in a single-season. She finished with 54 singles on the year, the 7^th most by a Winthrop player in a season.

Basinger earned All-Freshman Team honor after she led the team in ERA, wins, games started, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched and strikeouts. She was 10-for-14 on the year with a 2.49 ERA, which is the lowest ERA by a Winthrop starting pitcher since 2010. It is also the lowest ERA by a Winthrop freshman pitcher since Megan Evans had a 2.24 ERA in 2007. Basinger finished 5^th in the Big South in innings pitched, 8^th in ERA, opposing batting average, strikeouts, and tied for 9^th in wins. She tossed two shutouts on the road in the series at Gardner-Webb, earning her Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors.

King, who will graduate with a degree in exercise science, was named to the All-Academic Team. King is a president's list and dean's list member as well as a two-time Big South Honor Roll selection. In 2021 King was earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors. This season King started all 54 games she played finishing with a .203 average, 10 runs, four doubles, four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 walks and was hit-by-a-pitch 17 times. Her 17 HBP are the second-most by an Eagle in a single-season and finished her career with 20 which is tied for 5^th all-time in program history. The 17 HBP also lead the Big South and her 20 walks are tied for 11^th in the league.
