ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program defeated Charleston Southern 9-3 on Friday evening.
 
The Eagles are 11-18 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Charleston Southern had runners on first and third in the top of the first inning with no outs, but the Eagles were able to get out of the inning with no runs scoring
• In the bottom of the first the Eagles had runners on the corners, but were unable to drive in any runs
• In the bottom of the second inning the Eagles would get on the board after a single from Chris Ewing to make the score 1-0
• Later in the inning the Eagles would go on to score two more runs after two more singles from Robby Taul and CJ Conrad to make the score 3-0 heading into the third
• In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles would score again off of an error to make the score 4-0
• After a double from Dillon Morton, the Eagles would score again to make the score 5-0
• In the top of the fifth, Charleston Southern would score a run to make it 5-1
• In the bottom of sixth, Dillon Morton would hit a 2 run homer to right field to extend the Eagles lead 7-1
• In the bottom of the eighth, Jack Spyke doubled to score another run making it 8-1
• Later in the inning Joey Tepper would single to center field to score another run to make it 9-1 heading into the ninth
• In the top of the ninth, Charleston Southern would score 2 runs to make the final score 9-3
