Eagles Defeat Charlotte In Back And Forth Matchup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program defeated Charlotte at the Winthrop Ballpark on Wednesday.
 
The Eagles are 10-18 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tepper singled in the first inning, but a strikeout ended the threat
  • Ethan Fewell reach on an error and Robby Taul walked in the bottom of the second, but a strikeout and groundout left them stranded
  • Winthrop got on the board in the third as Ames doubled in Luke Hannum for the first run of the night
  • Charlotte tied the game on an RBI double in the top of the fifth
  • The 49ers tacked on a run in the sixth on a solo shot to right and took the lead on a homer to right field
  • Fewell hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to re-take the lead
  • Charlotte re-took the lead on a grand slam in the top of the seventh
  • Dillon Morton's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning sliced the lead to two runs and a single from Robby Taul brought home another run
  • A two-run single from Ewing then gave Winthrop the lead back and a wild pitch gave the Eagles an 8-6 lead
  • A wild pitch from the 49ers extended the lead to three

Winthrop takes on Charleston Southern at home this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for Friday, Apr. 8 at 5 p.m.
